Can Quails And Guinea Pigs Live Together? (All Risks)

You might be asking yourself if it would be wise to have your different species of animals share the same enclosure.

Say, for instance, that you keep a couple of quails and a couple of guinea pigs together. Would they be able to co-exist side by side peacefully?

The answer is a definite NO!

Quails, for instance, are known to be very aggressive towards small-sized animals. They are also known to get quite aggressive in the presence of other small animals and can also attack them with dagger-like beaks. As guinea pigs have no physical form of defense against these attacks, it is best if they stay away from quails in the first place.

Quails and guinea pigs should never share the same space, quails will attack the guinea pigs in no time. Guinea pigs should be brought in cages or other areas away from quails and quail-proofed.

However, if they must share the same space, there are certain things you should remember. Try to provide each animal with an individual cage of its own. In addition to making sure they don’t get along, do this to help the animals stay healthy.

Quails are much more active than guinea pigs and can be a real threat to their health. Also, the odor and noise from quails can be very upsetting to a guinea pig. Quails don’t usually have cages, but if you have one, go ahead and put the guinea pigs in there with them. They should have enough room for exercise, but be careful not to overcrowd them or let them interact too much as this could lead to fighting.

With What Can Quails Live With?

Quails can live with other poultry species such as chickens, ducks, and geese. They will also get along with other birds like keets, canaries, pigeons, and budgies.

As with any other domestic animal, they must be quail-proofed. They should not be allowed to roam free outside with the risk of coming in contact with them.

Quails are prolific breeders and quite territorial in their environment so keeping them separated is good practice to prevent aggression amongst them in a cage.

With What Can Quails Not Live With?

Quails cannot be kept in the same cage with snakes. Also, they cannot live in a room that has rodents or insects.

They will usually do much better if they do not get to interact with cats and dogs either as these two species are both difficult to house and care for safely with quails being so bird-like.
